Thanks to everyone who has become a monthly contributor for Mahoning Matters since we launched our end-of-year campaign at the end of October.
We’re well on our way to meeting our goal of 250 new contributors by the end of the year, which is great news. And here’s why.
This money will help us continue to make sense of the important local issues in the Valley, bring you a wide array of voices and perspectives, and build a strong foundation for independent, local journalism.
Our most recent voter guide, too, is a crucial example of our commitment to service journalism that gives you the information you need and that matters most to you. The same goes for our partnership with Stambaugh Auditorium and our new collaboration with the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley to support and sustain our local newsroom.
So, if you haven’t yet, please support Mahoning Matters’ form of service journalism with a monthly contribution of $5, $10, or even $25 a month.

As the publisher, it’s my job to keep on top of the revenues, but more importantly, what we’re doing to deepen our roots in the community.
Monthly contributors ensure we have the money needed to invest in the local journalism that you’ve come to expect from the Mahoning Matters newsroom of Mark Sweetwood, Jeremy Harper, Jess Hardin, and Justin Dennis. It also helps us to support young, up-and-coming journalists like Ellen Wagner, who joined our newsroom thanks to our partnership with Report for America.
Thanks to everyone who's been part of our first year serving the community. Here's to many more years to come.
P.S. Please help us spread the word! If you've already contributed, or believe in our mission, please forward this story to friends and colleagues who value strong local reporting.
