LISBON — The Columbiana County Health District on Thursday morning reported eight new cases of COVID-19 for a total of 251 in the county, as well as 24 total deaths.

Residents of long-term care facilities in the county account for 25 of the total cases, as well as nine of the deaths.

Those figures include confirmed and probable cases, as well as statistics from the cities of East Liverpool and Salem and Federal Correctional Institution Elkton.

There are now 97 total cases at the prison, according to the federal Bureau of Prisons, including 49 cases among inmates and 48 among staff, and seven reported inmate deaths.

That's the highest number of reported staff infections at all federal prisons with reported cases, as well as the highest number of inmate deaths alongside FCI Oakdale in Louisiana.
