Columbiana reports 2 new COVID-19 deaths
LISBON — The Columbiana County Health District announced it will begin releasing COVID-19 case information once a week, and reported no new cases Monday.
The county will continue to report new deaths, however, and reported two new deaths today — including a 65-year-old male with no known underlying health conditions and a 66-year-old male with underlying health conditions — for a total 37 confirmed and probable deaths.
Of those total deaths, 15 were residents of long-term care facilities in the county, and nine were inmates of Federal Correctional Institution Elkton.
The county reported 325 total cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard.
The county's figures include statistics from the cities of East Liverpool and Salem and FCI Elkton, a low-security facility that houses about 2,400 inmates.
On Sunday, the federal Bureau of Prisons reported 104 active cases at the prison, including 92 cases among inmates and 12 among staff, and nine inmate deaths, which is the highest among all federal prisons with reported cases.
The bureau also reported 45 inmates and 40 employees have recovered from COVID-19.
Joseph Mayle, an FCI Elkton corrections officer and president of the union representing prison employees, reported today that 47 Elkton inmates are in quarantine; 78 are in isolation; and 14 are hospitalized, including six who have been placed on ventilators.
