YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County now has 1,600 confirmed cases of COVID-19 — eight more than reported Monday.

The county also reported two new virus-related deaths today, bringing the total number of deaths to 218.

Of the total cases, 336 people have been hospitalized. Of the county's 218 total deaths, 77 percent were reported at county long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes, according to a release today from Mahoning County Public Health.

In 99 percent of those reported deaths, patients had underlying health conditions, according to the agency.

The agency notes the number of deaths is according to the date they were reported, rather than the actual date of death, as COVID-19 death reporting may be delayed. The figures do not represent the number of people who have died in the past 24 hours and also include confirmed and probable deaths.
