Ohio reporting 434 new cases of COVID-19; 31,625 total
COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 31,625 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19 — 434 more than reported Wednesday.
In addition, the state is also reporting 2,290 "probable cases," which is a new expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Statewide, 5,811 people have been hospitalized, 1,516 of whom are in intensive care units.
There are 1,425 cases in Mahoning County; 551 in Trumbull; and 687 in Columbiana.
Statewide, there have been 2,098 confirmed deaths, including 173 in Mahoning County; 47 in Trumbull; and 71 in Columbiana; along with another 210 "probable deaths".
Mahoning County's 173 reported COVID-19 deaths remains the fourth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.
Mahoning County has the seventh-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 1,425 confirmed cases as of Thursday, that's about one case of the virus for every 160 people.
