Ohio reporting 509 new cases of COVID-19; 23,400 total

COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 23,400 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19 — 509 more than reported Sunday.

In addition, the state is also reporting 1,377 "probable cases," which is a new expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Statewide, 4,413 people have been hospitalized, 1,217 of whom are in intensive care units.

There are 1,141 cases in Mahoning County; 408 in Trumbull; and 336 in Columbiana.

Statewide, there have been 1,357 confirmed deaths — including 124 in Mahoning County; 35 in Trumbull; and 37 in Columbiana — along with another 121 "probable deaths."

Mahoning County's 124 reported COVID-19 deaths is the fourth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.

Mahoning County has the seventh-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 1,141 confirmed cases as of Monday, that's about one case of the virus for every 200 people.
