Ohio reporting 684 new cases of COVID-19; 17,285 total
COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 17,285 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19 — 684 more than reported Wednesday.
In addition, the state is also reporting 742 "probable cases," which is a new expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Statewide, 3,533 people have been hospitalized, 1,035 of whom are in intensive care units.
There are 828 cases in Mahoning County; 308 in Trumbull; and 253 in Columbiana. Columbiana's figures include confirmed and probable cases.
Statewide, there have been 898 confirmed deaths, including 80 in Mahoning County; 31 in Trumbull; and 23 in Columbiana; along with another 77 "probable deaths".
Mahoning County's 80 reported COVID-19 deaths remains the third-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.
Mahoning County has the seventh-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 828 confirmed cases as of Wednesday, that's about one case of the virus for every 276 people.
