McDONALD — Nancy Mary Hoover, 70, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Aug. 11).

She was born June 28, 1951 in Youngstown, the daughter of Mary and Comiel Turello.

Nancy graduated in 1969 at the top of her class at Liberty High School.

She was awarded a full scholarship to pursue her education at Kent State University.

While pursuing her degree at KSU, she mourned the loss and injury of her friends during the Kent State massacre on May 4, 1970 and thus transferred to finish her education. In 1973, she completed her degree at Youngstown State University earning her Bachelors of Arts in Education with Honors.

While she attended YSU, Nancy was a member of the writing and editorial team for The Jambar, YSU's newspaper.

On September 3, 1971, she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, William "Bill" Hoover. They made their home in McDonald. They were gifted with 50 beautiful years together and constantly traveled, enjoyed hunting for antiques, loved visiting Disney and Universal parks, and genuinely enjoyed their time with each other.

Nancy and Bill were very devoted parents of Brian and Lisa, attending all of their family's activities. They enjoyed attending McDonald football games to watch Brian play football or Lisa as a cheerleader or playing in the band.

They were supportive of Brian to earn his Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts, participate in karate tournaments and play high school sports.

They were encouraging and never missed performances when Lisa was in dance productions with Ballet Western Reserve or McDonald High drama club.

Their assistance was key in Brian graduating with his Masters of Education and Lisa graduating with her Bachelor of Arts and Science in Architecture.

Nancy returned to her high school alma mater, Liberty High School, to teach High School Honors English. Her calling in life was to encourage, enlighten, and inspire her students to find their passion for the love of learning.

While at Liberty, Nancy also developed the Honors Program, a curriculum that focused on developing writing skills to master and complete a research paper.

After more than 35 years as a teacher, Nancy retired from teaching.

Nancy also enjoyed being an active member of the McDonald Literary Guild and formed life long friendships with many of its members.

Nancy will be deeply missed and remembered by her husband, Bill; her son, Brian Hoover; her daughter, Lisa (Jose) Lugo; her grandchildren Ashton, Rylie, Aubrie, Ethan and Emily; her sisters Roz DeGennaro and Sylvia Maholtz; and her sister-in-law, Cheryl Kucher.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Carl and Twila Hoover; and brothers-in-law Carmen DeGennaro, Paul Maholtz; and Robert Kucher.
