P3R announces ‘America's Mile' races during Picklesburgh
P3R, the organization behind the Pittsburgh Marathon, has opened registration for its "America's Mile" slate of events during Picklesburgh weekend.
More than a half-dozen events will take place July 17 on the North Shore beginning at 6:30 p.m., including the Kids of Steel Mile for runners ages 13 and younger and the Masters Mile for runners ages 40 and over. P3R has yet to release course maps.
Over 2,000 runners participated in last year's events, according to P3R spokeswoman Kelsey Emch. This year's events will offer a total prize purse of more than $34,000.
VisitPittsburgh President and CEO Jerad Bachar said in a press release that combining America's Mile and Picklesburgh gave tourists "a multifaceted look at what makes our city a world-class destination."
"This year, we've made it a priority to bridge the gap between major sporting events and iconic cultural festivals - this event is no different," he said. "The efforts of both P3R and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership to put on these two iconic events allow us to package a compelling invitation for foodies and athletes alike to experience the best of Pittsburgh all in one weekend."
Tickets for each race cost $20, and registrants will receive a T-shirt, a race bib, and a finisher's medal.
Those interested in registering for America's Mile can visit P3R's dedicated website.
