Daniel Radcliffe Finally Reveals His Favorite ‘Harry Potter' Film
For over a decade, Daniel Radcliffe was the face of Harry Potter, but even the man behind the glasses has a hard time agreeing with the fans. In a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Radcliffe finally sat down to rank all eight Harry Potter films through a high-stakes bracket system - and the results are sparking a massive debate in the fandom.
The Grand Finale Takes the Top Spot
After pitting the franchise's heavyweights against each other, Radcliffe officially crowned Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 as his favorite of all time.
Matching the critical consensus, Radcliffe chose the 2011 conclusion as his number one pick. The film, which holds a stellar 96% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, was the emotional peak of the series for both the audience and the cast. For Radcliffe, the film stands as the most rewarding and satisfying culmination of a decade spent in the role.
The Shocking ‘Prisoner of Azkaban' Snub
The most contentious moment of the ranking came during the semi-finals when Radcliffe was forced to choose between Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Despite Azkaban holding a near-perfect 90% score and being widely regarded as the "best" cinematic entry, Radcliffe went the other way.
"I know everyone wants me to say Azkaban. I know that's how everyone else feels," Radcliffe admitted. "But I love the stuff I got to do on the fourth movie. It was awesome. I'll take Goblet of Fire." Radcliffe noted that the fourth film was particularly fun for him as a teenage actor, though audiences typically rank it significantly lower than the third installment.
The ‘Bottom of the Bracket'
Radcliffe was equally blunt about the film he enjoys the least. He revealed that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sits at the absolute bottom of his list. However, he was quick to clarify that his distaste isn't for the film itself, but for his own performance.
"That's probably the bottom of the bracket for me. And that's my own stuff. That's not the film," he explained, noting that he still "cringes" when watching himself at age 18 or 19. Interestingly, he has grown fonder of the very early films like Chamber of Secrets, which he now views as "sweet" rather than embarrassing.
Passing the Wand to HBO's New Cast
Radcliffe's trip down memory lane arrives as the Wizarding World prepares for its biggest shift since the original movies ended. HBO has officially confirmed a Christmas 2026 release for the Harry Potter TV series, which will reboot the story starting with The Philosopher's Stone.
The first trailer, which dropped last month, gave fans their first look at the new central trio: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron. Radcliffe has already wished McLaughlin well, even writing to the 11-year-old actor to offer his support as he begins a decade-long journey at Hogwarts.
