'The Terror: Devil in Silver' and 8 other horror series based on books
May 7 (UPI) --The Terror: Devil in Silver, premiering Thursday on AMC and AMC+, will bring the Victor LaValle novel to life.
Devil in Silver marks the third season of the horror anthology series, which also includes The Terror (Season 1) and The Terror: Infamy (Season 2).
The new episodes are executive produced by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) and star Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) as Pepper, a working-class man who is wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital.
"There, he must contend with patients working against him, doctors harboring grim secrets, and perhaps even the Devil himself," an official synopsis reads.
Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Aasif Mandvi, John Benjamin Hickey, Stephen Root and Michael Aranov also star.

'Castle Rock'
The supernatural horror series takes place in Stephen King's fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, and draws inspiration from several of King's works, including The Shining, Shawshank Redemption and Misery. It aired for two seasons on Hulu, from 2018 to 2019.
Season 1 starred Andre Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Bill Skarsgard and Sissy Spacek, with Jane Levy as Diane "Jackie" Torrance, the niece of The Shining's Jack Torrance.
Season 2 focused on a younger Annie Wilkes (Lizzy Caplan), a character first introduced in King's novel Misery.
Castle Rock is available to stream on Hulu, Disney+ and Netflix.
'The Haunting of Hill House'
The 2018 supernatural horror series is created and directed by Mike Flanagan, who drew inspiration from the Shirley Jackson novel.
Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel and Victoria Pedretti star as five siblings whose lives were forever changed after experiencing supernatural events in a new house with their parents (Timothy Hutton, Carla Gugino).
Equal parts ghost story and family drama, The Haunting of Hill House is available to stream on Netflix.
'The Exorcist'
The supernatural horror series based on the William Peter Blatty novel had a two-season run on Fox from 2016 to 2017.
Created by Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy), The Exorcist series stars Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels as Tomas Ortega and Marcus Keane, two priests who investigate cases of demonic possession.
Season 1 ties into Blatty's book and its famed 1973 film adaptation, while Season 2 centers on a foster home.
The Exorcist series is available to rent on streaming platforms.
'The Strain'
The vampire horror drama based on the Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan book trilogy aired for four seasons on FX from 2014 to 2017.
Corey Stoll stars as Dr. Ephraim "Eph" Goodweather, the head of the fictional CDC Canary Team, which discovers the outbreak of a virus that turns humans into vampire-like monsters.
David Bradley, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde and Richard Sammel also star.
The Strain is available to stream on Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video and AMC+.
'Bates Motel'
The psychological horror series based on the Robert Bloch novel Psycho had a five-season run on A&E from 2013 to 2017.
Carlton Cruse (Lost) co-created the show, which serves as a prequel to Bloch's novel and its famed 1960 film adaptation. Freddie Highmore plays a young Norman Bates, with Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) as his mother, Norma.
Other cast members include Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, Nicola Peltz, Nestor Carbonell and Kenny Johnson, along with a guest spot from Rihanna as Marion Crane in the fifth and final season.
Bates Motel is available to stream on Prime Video and The CW.
'Hannibal'
The psychological horror series from Bryan Fuller is inspired by the Thomas Harris novels Red Dragon, Hannibal and Hannibal Rising. It had a three-season run on NBC from 2013 to 2015.
Hannibal is created by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) and stars Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the psychiatrist and cannibal serial killer most famously played by Anthony Hopkins in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs.
Initially set before the events of Harris' novels, the TV series also stars Hugh Dancy as Will Graham, an FBI criminal profiler who works with Lecter and becomes an object of fascination for the secret serial killer.
Hannibal is available to stream on Prime Video.
'Hemlock Grove'
The horror series based on the Brian McGreevy novel is created by McGreevy and produced by Hostel director Eli Roth. It aired for three seasons on Netflix, from 2013 to 2015.
Hemlock Grove is set in the fictional town of Hemlock Grove, Pa., home to the sinister Godfrey Institute for Biomedical Technologies and Hemlock Acres psychiatric hospital.
The cast includes Famke Janssen as Olivia Godfrey, the head of the Institute, Dougray Scott as Dr. Norman Godfrey, the lead psychiatrist at Hemlock Acres, and Bill Skarsgard (It) as Roman Godfrey, Olivia's son who investigates a series of murders in the town.
Hemlock Grove is available to stream on Prime Video, Peacock, AMC+, The CW, The Roku Channel and Tubi.
'True Blood'
The vampire horror drama hails from Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball and is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries book series by Charlaine Harris. It had a seven-season run on HBO from 2008 to 2014.
Set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, La., True Blood takes place in a world where vampires have publicly emerged due to the invention of synthetic plasma known as TruBlood.
Anna Paquin stars as Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress with telepathic powers who falls in love with the vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Rutina Wesley, Ryan Kwanten, Alexander Skarsgard and Sam Trammell also star.
True Blood is available to stream on HBO Max, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+ and The Roku Channel.
