Netflix Quietly Changes User Interface, Subscribers Complain
Netflix is a streaming giant with more than 200 million monthly users that pumps out over 700 original titles every year.
However, it's not immune to making its users angry. Whether removing a popular title or producing a questionable series ending - we're looking at you, Stranger Things, Netflix has made a few errors recently.
Another one just dropped.
Netflix Changes User Interface
What's on Netflix spotted a new change made by the streaming platform.
"For years, power users have bypassed Netflix's algorithmic recommendations by clicking into the 'Movies' or 'TV Shows' tabs, switching to the grid view, and using the drop-down menu on the far right. This menu allowed you to sort by 'Suggestions for you,' 'Year Released,' 'A-Z,' and 'Z-A,'" What's on Netflix wrote.
However, that drop-down menu "simply vanished" along with a few other changes Netflix has rolled out in recent months, including a small visual overhaul of the player and the inability to now click on genre rows to bring up the full list of titles in a grid format.
User Interface Change Sparks Fury
One Reddit user questioned the decision to change the user interface.
"Just wanted to say I'm really disappointed about the 'Latest' or 'Newest' sort option disappearing - especially in documentaries," the user said. "I watch a lot of docos on Netflix, and that feature made it so easy to keep up with new releases and remember what I'd already seen. Everything was in order, and it just made sense."
"Now it all feels a bit random and messy. I honestly can't tell what's new anymore, and I find myself scrolling way more than I should trying to figure it out," the user added. "It might seem like a small thing, but it actually made a big difference to how I use the platform. I'd really love to see that option come back."
A What's on Netflix reader also noted the issue by saying, "This has been really annoying the last couple of days. It was my way to find movies."
It's unclear if this is a permanent change or something Netflix is just toying around with.
