Here's how you can welcome ‘Giant Chip' home to Lehigh Valley ice cream shop
A Lehigh Valley ice cream shop will soon celebrate both the return of its “Giant Chip” statue and its 17th anniversary.
The welcome-home party for Chip will begin at noon May 23 at The Inside Scoop at 301 N. Third St. (Route 309) in Coopersburg, the ice cream shop announced. High winds knocked off the top half of the statue in February, leaving him only legs until creator Mark Cline returned last month to help repair him.
Co-owner Penny Caciolo, who opened The Inside Scoop in May 2009 with her husband Tony, said the celebration will feature a face painter, a station for kids to decorate ice cream cupcakes, special sundaes and the cherry-chocolate chip flavor that debuted last month in Chip’s honor.
“[Chip has] been so iconic in the community,” Caciolo said. “We’ve just been very pleased with the reaction and just everyone’s support along the way.”
