Watching Pet Birds Take a Shower Is Way Cuter Than We Thought It Would Be
How does a bird take a shower?
That's a question we've never really stopped to ask ourselves before, but now that we've seen how the woman behind the YouTube channel the Green Bird Brigade and its accompanying parrot rescue, Rockford's Rescues, in Austin, Texas, gives her flock a good washing, we feel forever changed.

As it turns out, there is a shower mechanism one can buy to give pet birds a proper bath in the sink, and it is way cuter to watch than we'd have ever thought possible.

First of all, the woman who heads the Green Bird Brigade lives the life of a Disney princess. Birds are flying all over the place, perching on her shoulders and hopping about the sink like she's Snow White.
As the woman puts the sink shower together, all the birds get noticeably excited.
"They couldn't wait," the video caption says as all the birds start hopping into the water before assembly has been completed.
Once the shower is assembled and turned on, the gentlest waterfall begins to flow. It's almost like a relaxing water feature decoration for the home, except a bunch of tiny birds keep flying into it to preen and bathe.
One green parrot named Mika doesn't even want to move. He's like a monk sitting and meditating under a waterfall.
Next comes little beauty Cora, who splashes and moves through the shower with grace and delight.
Auggie is a slightly larger bird who prefers to splash about in the sink like a bathtub, but always with the woman's hand in place, acting as an island of dry land to run to, in case Auggie needs to feel secure.
Clearly, bath day is a very happy day for the Green Bird Brigade, and we're certainly happier for having witnessed this joyful event.

"I could watch this for hours," one commenter agrees. "Such bathing enthusiasm from the littles."
"Reminds me of kids in a sprinkler," says another.
"It's like a bird water park," adds one more. "That looks so fun!"
Do Birds Really Need to Take Baths?
They may be naturally waterproof, but birds still need to bathe. In fact, bathing is part of how birds keep their feathers waterproof in the first place.
Water in the form of a bath or shower helps remove dirt, dust and parasites, keeping the bird in healthy flying shape. Bathing also stimulates the glands that keep bird plumage shiny and in good condition.
Bird baths in backyards do provide a safe environment for outside birds to get the job done, but indoor pets can use a shallow dish of lukewarm water-or shower mechanisms like this one.
Birds should bathe about three to four times a week, and it's very important to let them air-dry afterward. It's just as important never to use a towel, as this can strip their feathers of the natural oils that keep them waterproof and flying free.
Now that we know how birds shower, we'll be thinking about it all day!
