Corgi's Happy Howls After Pup Brother's Passing Have Everyone Emotional
If you've never had the privilege of adopting a Corgi, you may not be familiar with the three things they're amazing at: herding, pleasing their people, and howling with their whole heart and soul. So, if you have one of these precious dogs who used to happily howl but stopped while grieving a loss, the silence can be deafening.
Brady, an adorable senior Corgi, recently said goodbye to his younger brother, Graffiti, who passed away because of a quickly progressing cancer. He stopped howling because he was so sad. Now, he's finding his voice again, thanks to the love and support of Mom and Dad.

There could never be enough "pupdates" from @bradygraffiti_corgis showing how the eldest pup is handling such a traumatic absence. I, for one, can't help but get misty-eyed thinking of Brady's bond with his little brother and all the ways his little heart hurts, but he can't say it with words. Seeing him cut loose and howl like there's no tomorrow makes me want to run and hug my Corgi for the rest of the day.

On a lighter note, there's another thing Corgi parents are familiar with: They will do anything for the last crumb. We call our girl the Hoover, and Brady is here to show you why!

How To Help a Grieving Dog
There's no question-dogs feel grief, even if they can't express it the way we do. To help them get through a mourning period, keep their routines the same, make sure they're getting enough exercise to release some happy-making endorphins, and give them extra attention, cuddles, snuggles, pets, and kisses.
Keep comfort items nearby, especially if they have the scent of the companion who passed-unless it causes stress. You don't want to set them back, so take their lead.
I'm thrilled Brady is feeling good enough to be some version of his old self again. It's a small step, but one day at a time will eventually lead him to a different, newer kind of joy. Sometimes, that's all we can hope for.
