TNA Wrestling Releases Former World Champion

TNA Wrestling has parted ways with a former world champion after a five-year tenure.

On Sunday, Fightful Select reported that Steve Maclin was released by TNA. Maclin confirmed his departure with a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that he requested his release a week ago.

TNA also released Myla Grace, one year after she debuted for the promotion at the June 6 Against All Odds event.

Maclin won the TNA World Championship at the Rebellion pay-per-view on April 16, 2023, defeating Kushida via pinfall. He held the championship for 54 days before losing it to Alex Shelley at Against All Odds 2023.

The 39-year-old also became the inaugural TNA International Champion at the Unbreakable 2025 pay-per-view. After dropping it to Frankie Kazarian at Victory Road, Maclin regained the title at Bound for Glory.

Steve Maclin Spent Seven Years in WWE Before Joining TNA

Before he signed with TNA in 2021, Maclin had a seven-year stint in the WWE, where he performed as "Steve Cutler." The Rutherford, New Jersey, native signed with the company in 2014, debuting on the July 3 episode of NXT.

WWE conducted a long series of roster cuts during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Cutler being released in Feb. 2021. He obviously enjoyed much more success in TNA Wrestling, so it shouldn't be surprising if WWE explores bringing him back.
