Ken Doll's 65th Anniversary Marked by Unexpected Fashion Collab With Iconic DJ
Happy birthday, Ken! Sixty-five never looked so good.
Earlier this year, Mattel, Inc. announced today that the beloved Barbie doll was kicking off his 65th anniversary by saying "Hello New Beginnings," trading his beach towel for a boarding pass and inspiring fans everywhere to embrace a yearlong adventure as he sets out to try 65 new things.
Now, as part of the unique celebration, Ken is teaming up with Grammy-nominated DJ Steve Aoki for a fashion collaboration that imagines what happens "when Ken steps behind the decks."
Beginning Thursday, June 18, the limited-edition Ken x Dim Mak collection blends Ken's playful legacy with Dim Mak's streetwear and electronic music roots, reimagining Ken's 65th anniversary through the lens of Dim Mak - which was founded by Aoki, 48.
The 10-piece collection includes tees, tanks, sweatshirts, hats and shorts retailing from $38-$75 that's now available to shop here.
Barbie, Aoki and his Dim Mak brand all took to Instagram Thursday to post a joint video promoting the "legendary link up" featuring a Ken doll that's a spitting image of the iconic DJ. Check out the riotous clip below.
Fans seem on board with the new collaboration, showing their supporting in the joint post's comments section. "Haha sooo cute and joyful! ♡♡♡," wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, "Omg i would buy the Aoki doll! We hadn't had a DJ doll yet."
"Whether I'm making music, or building my brand Dim Mak, I'm always chasing moments that people will never forget," Aoki said in a statement. "Helping Ken celebrate 65 years by teaching him how to DJ has been an absolute blast. We created a capsule that's bold, fearless, and uniquely us, and seeing myself as a one-of-a-kind Ken doll is pretty wild. Ken's proving that it's never too late to try something new, reinvent yourself, and have fun doing it. I'm excited to see what's next for him."
