Cuisinart recalls more than 1.7 million grilling products over serious injury risks
If Cuisinart gear is part of your summer cookout setup, check your grill-and the brush you use to clean it-before firing up the burners again.
Cuisinart is now tied to two major grilling recalls announced eight days apart. On July 9, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 12,660 Cuisinart Propel+ gas grills because a tempered-glass window can shatter during use.
That follows a July 2 CPSC recall covering about 1.72 million Cuisinart metal wire bristle grill brushes. The agency warns that small bristles can detach, stick to food, and cause serious internal injuries if swallowed.
Check Your Cuisinart Grill and Grill Brush
The grill recall covers the Cuisinart Propel+ Four Burner 3-in-1 Gas Grill with pizza oven, model CGG-6331. According to the CPSC recall notice, the model and serial numbers are printed on a label inside the right-hand metal door.
Conair has received 37 reports of the glass shattering during use and one report of a fire, the CPSC says. No injuries have been reported.
The separate brush recall is much larger. Fox Business reports that 1,719,995 Cuisinart metal wire bristle grill brushes are affected. The recalled brushes have black plastic, stainless steel, or wood handles and “Cuisinart” stamped on the handle.
Affected models include CCB-100, CCB-4125, CCB-5014, CCB-6450, CCB-8012, CCB-4114, CCB-W2, and CSBS-777, according to the CPSC.
Fox Business reports the brushes were sold at Burlington, T.J. Maxx, and Ross and online through Amazon and Cuisinart.com. The CPSC says they were available from June 2009 through March 2026 for about $8 to $20.
Conair is aware of 54 reports or reviews involving detached wire bristles, according to the federal recall notice. Three consumers swallowed bristles and sought medical treatment to have them removed from the throat or digestive tract.
What Owners Should Do Before Their Next Cookout
The CPSC says consumers should stop using affected grills and grill brushes immediately.
For recalled grills, Conair is offering a $500 refund by check or reimbursement of the original purchase price with proof of purchase after owners follow the recall instructions and submit the required photos.
For recalled brushes, the CPSC says Conair is offering a full cash refund or Cuisinart.com credit worth the refund amount plus 20 percent.
The Safest Ways to Clean Your Grill
The recall is also a good reason to rethink how you clean your grill.
The CPSC has urged consumers to switch from metal wire-bristle grill brushes to non-wire alternatives. The agency also recommends inspecting the grill surface for detached bristles and checking food closely before eating.
For routine cleaning, consider a bristle-free grill cleaner, nylon brush, grill scraper, or grill stone. Nylon brushes should only be used on cool grates, while some bristle-free tools use steam to loosen cooked-on food from a hot grill.
Food & Wine reports that cleaning after each use can help prevent grease and food residue from building up. A deeper cleaning a few times during grilling season can also tackle debris below the grates and around the grill’s interior.
