When does 'Heartstopper' movie come out? Netflix reveals finale date

It all began with a simple "Hi," but now "Heartstopper" is ready to say goodbye.

The coming-of-age Netflix series, which centers the romance of British schoolboys Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), will release its finale, the feature film "Heartstopper Forever," this summer, Netflix announced on Wednesday, April 22.

"Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them," the film's logline reads. "Can first loves really last forever?"

The streamer also shared a new behind-the-scenes cast photo that shows Locke and Connor embracing for the camera, surrounded by costars William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Rhea Norwood and Leila Khan.

Based on the young adult graphic novel series by Alice Oseman, "Heartstopper" debuted in April 2022 and quickly earned praise for its heartfelt and realistic portrayal of LGBTQ youth. The show has won three consecutive GLAAD Media Awards for outstanding live-action kids and family programming.

USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler gave the show's first season a perfect-score rating, calling the series "delightfully charming."

"It's a simple story that feels vital in today's climate, and it is exquisitely portrayed by the young actors," Lawler wrote. "Brought to life on screen with the help from drawings and doodles from the graphic novels, 'Heartstopper' is one of the best teen series Netflix has ever offered. It is a distillation of happiness so complete, it is hard not to fall in love with it."

'Heartstopper Forever' release date gets fans emotional

The announcement of the "Heartstopper Forever" finale date rocked the show's fans, with several taking to social media to share their emotional reactions.

"Our family," @heartstopperobsessed_ wrote on Instagram. "We've watched them all grow up."

"I'm not ready!!!!" @staceyashley_willis commented.

"I don't know if I want it or not," @maschiavinatto wrote. "It's bittersweet."

"They will always be in my heart," @heartstopper.pe commented. "Thank you for everything."

When does 'Heartstopper' movie come out?

"Heartstopper Forever" will be released on Netflix on July 17.
