'Gone with the Wind' coming to 4K UHD in November
July 14 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment on Tuesday announced the forthcoming 4K UHD release of Gone with the Wind. The 4K UHD will be released Nov. 3.
Three variations will be available: a standard 4K UHD, a steelbook and a Walmart.com exclusive collector's edition.
The new edition includes three new retrospectives with film critics and scholars discussing the film's influence and Vivien Leigh's groundbreaking portrayal of Scarlett O'Hara. One of the new features focuses on the restoration process.
Leigh stars alongside Clark Gable, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard and Hattie McDaniel in the epic adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's Civil War drama. It won 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, Victor Fleming as Best Director and the performances of Leigh and McDaniel.
The film still holds the record for most tickets sold and was added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 1989.
WaterTower Music plans a vinyl re-release of the soundtrack.
In 2020, HBO Max added a contextual warning over the film's depiction of racial elements after briefly removing it from the service.
