CHRIS PUGH: Want your own fire truck? This one at auction ‘runs, drives and pumps great’
Think about the person in your life who it’s impossible to buy gifts for every year.
You know who.
The one who never gives you ideas but gives you a weird look when you buy them a shirt or DVD.
How about buying them a real-life fire truck?
Whoa!
Austintown Township is auctioning off a 1986 Sutphen/Gator Pumper fire truck.
Whoever bids the most gets it.
What is the top bid?
This online auction is open to the public at municibid.com and ends on March 9.
With a week to go, the current top bid as of Tuesday afternoon was $4,600.
That’s doable.
Here’s more on the truck from the fire department.
“The fire truck has 32,566 miles on it and is in excellent condition, runs, drives and pumps great. It features a 500-gallon tank, Caterpillar 3208, 225 H.P. engine with turbo, an Allison MT 643 transmission, a Hale 1000 G.P.M. pump with current pump certification, and a Hale onboard generator. Also has a Ford 8000 chassis with air brakes, and the body is handmade Aluminum by Gator made for Sutphen. The truck has been routinely maintained by Austintown Township’s Maintenance Garage. The fire truck’s tires are in good shape and paint is in excellent condition (no fading).”
Proceeds from the sale go directly to the township.
Why grown kid in your life wants a fire truck
I’m sold on the idea of getting a fire truck.
I fondly remember the hours I spent as a kid playing with fire trucks in my bedroom. It’s a dream shared by many others when they were children.
And yeah, neighboring fire departments could also use a fire truck, but it’s good to dream.
So if you’re looking for a creative gift idea, buy the favorite person in your life a real-life fire truck.
It’s the dream gift for the little child in all of us..
