Huntington Bank foundations donate to the Youngstown Press Club
Two foundations administered by Huntington Bank recently made contributions to the Youngstown Press Club.
To support the next year of events and speakers, the Edward Barr Foundation donated $10,000 to the Youngstown Press Club.
The speaker series will feature seven events in 2024.
The Frank and Pearl Gelbman Foundation also donated $4,000 which will be going toward the club’s scholarship fund.
President Lori A. Factor said the foundations “have so tangibly supported our efforts to promote journalism and communication-related professions in the Valley.”
“Their gifts will allow us to continue our robust scholarship program while creating an even stronger speaker series. We are strengthened by their generosity,” Factor said.
Scholarships support college juniors and seniors in the Mahoning Valley and Shenango Valley areas majoring in journalism or a similar field.
In 2023, the Youngstown Press Club awarded a total of two $2,000 scholarships and plan to do the same for 2024.

But he’s been recognized for his record-setting accomplishments in another competitive sport: powerlifting.
Boyles competed Dec. 3 in the U.S. Powerlifting Association open competition hosted in Erie, Penn.
It was only his second time competing in an official U.S. Powerlifting Association event, but he walked away with some major wins.
Boyles broke the Pennsylvania State records in three categories: lifting 307 pounds in the bench press, deadlifting 518 pounds and squatting with 507 pounds.
His 507-pound squat also set a national record for his weight class; he competed in the 16-17 age group weighing under 165 pounds.
