The Youngstown Foundation recently awarded Ballet Western Reserve $18,000 to support a live, professional orchestra from Youngstown State University to accompany the ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker.”
“We are so appreciative of the support from the Youngstown Foundation and thrilled to bring live music back to our classic version of this ballet, a perfect way for the entire family to kick off the holiday season,” Katie Merrill, executive director of Ballet Western Reserve, said in a news release. “Our live, majestic, professional-level production of the holiday classic will serve as a grand return to live music and theater in the Mahoning Valley.”
BWR is collaborating with The Dana Ensemble, a professional orchestra from the Dana School of Music in the Cliff College of Creative Arts, to play the full, classic Tchaikovsky score to accompany the performances.
BWR will present “The Nutcracker” at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St.
Tickets, ranging in price from $19 to $29, are available at the DeYor box office, online here or by calling 330-744-0264.
