ST. PATRICK’S DAY | Here are 10 events around the Valley to get you into the Irish spirit

With St. Patrick’s Day approaching on Thursday, it’s time to grab your favorite green garb and start the celebration — whether you decide to partake in the Irish festivities the weekend before, after or both!

Here’s a rundown of Irish-themed bar crawls, dining experiences and other events, including the return of Boardman’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade:

This Saturday

Lunch with the Leprechaun at Fellows Riverside Gardens

Head to The Davis Center at Mill Creek MetroParks’ Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, this Saturday, March 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a day of family centered fun, with a luncheon by Inspired Catering by Kravitz and live music by County Mayo Irish Band.

Dishes include corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots, Reuben sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers, tater tots, fresh fruit, leprechaun mini-brownies and cookies.

Children are encouraged to dress in costume as a fairy, leprechaun or Irish folk hero.

Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $26.95 for adults and $14.95 for children ages 4 through 12. Children age 4 and younger eat free. To purchase tickets, call 330-740-7116, ext. 230.

An Evening in the Celtic Gairdín at Fellows Riverside Gardens

Following Lunch with the Leprechaun, Marquee Inspired Events and Kravitz Deli will host an authentic Irish cultural celebration at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, this Saturday, March 12, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Guests will gather for food, music and dance while “embracing the Irish tradition of céili.”

Kravitz Deli will serve traditional Irish cuisine like corned beef sandwiches and cabbage dinners. Local Irish ales, Guinness and Irish whiskey will be available for purchase as well.

Tickets are $20 per person and include one beer. Food and drinks will be available at an additional cost. Tickets will be available at the door and can also be bought online.

Double St. Patrick’s Day at Sam’s Wedge Inn

Sam’s Wedge Inn, 1685 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown, will celebrate St. Patricks Day on Saturday, March 12, and Thursday, March 17.

On Saturday, guests can expect performances by Bobby T from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., bagpiper Stephen Holter from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Gary Markasky Project from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., then puzzle over Irish trivia, with music by DJ Brian Brown from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m.

On Thursday, the restaurant will open at 8 a.m. for Kegs-n-Eggs, with live entertainment from Gary Markasky Project from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bobby T at 1 p.m. and Mike Smith from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bagpiper Stephen Holter will perform from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Food and drink specials include green Coors Light pints for $2.50 and Guinness draughts for $5, Reuben sandwiches with chips for $9.99, corned beef and Swiss sandwiches with chips for $9.59 and Reuben kegs for $7.99.

Murder at The Red Maple Barn: He Killed an Irishman

This Saturday, March 12, The Red Maple Barn, 612 Center St. W, Warren, will host an Irish mob murder mystery dinner titled “He Killed an Irishman,” presented by Moxie Events and The Red Maple Barn.

Guests can expect a cabaret performance followed by dinner during which “a mystery will then unfold before you and the actors will lead you through an amazing story of twist and turns, and you’ll have the opportunity to get into the act and solve the crime!” reads the listing.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person and can be purchased online or by calling 330-759-4570. Seating is limited. Guests are invited to bring their own wine and spirits. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

This Sunday

The 44th Annual Mahoning Valley St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Boardman

After two years on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mahoning Valley St. Patrick’s Day Parade is back for 2022 and celebrating 44 years as one of the largest parades in Ohio.

The parade is set for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, and will start along Market Street in Boardman. Here’s the parade route.

The Official Mahoning Valley St. Patrick’s Day Parade After Party at Magic Tree Pub & Eatery

After the parade passes by on Sunday, the Mahoning Valley St. Patrick Day Parade and No Funk No Justice are putting on the official after-party from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Magic Tree Pub & Eatery, 7463 South Ave., Boardman.

Guests can expect outdoor entertainment in a heated tent, like performances from No Funk No Justice from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Burke School of Irish Dance. RDNA will perform inside the restaurant from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Parade trophies will be awarded, prizes will be given and funds donated will go towards future parades.

Irish Breakfast Tea at Piccadilly Parlour Victorian Tea Room

Piccadilly Parlour Victorian Tea Room, 114 S. Broad St., Canfield, will host an Irish Breakfast Tea from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13.

The menu will include homemade Irish quiche made with potatoes, turkey ham, Irish cheddar cheese, cabbage and onions, served with fresh fruit and toasted rye bread with Irish butter. Corned beef hash will be served on the side. The meal also will include a cup of soup, a two-cup pot of tea and a scone. Beverages will include coffee, tea and soda.

The cost is $21. The children’s menu will include either breakfast or tea options. The breakfast option includes choice of chocolate chip pancakes or waffles, hash browns, two sausage links and choice of beverage. The tea option will include chicken nuggets, mini cheese pizza, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, mini corn dogs, fresh fruit on the side, beverage and sweets served tea-party style. This Thursday, March 17

ShamRock the Block! in downtown Youngstown

A dozen Youngstown bars and restaurants are going green next week for ShamRock the Block!, which starts at noon on Thursday, March 17, and picks back up at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 18.

The Irish block party along the 100 block of West Federal Street will offer heated outdoor tents, Irish food and live music. The stage lineup includes: The Shoe Shine Boys, Northern Whiskey, Speedo Agreedo, Hoss & The Juggernauts and Whiskey Pilot.

St Pat’s Fiesta at El Cowboy

On Thursday, March 17, El Cowboy, 1739 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown, will host St. Pat’s Fiesta from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., featuring three bands on the cantina stage.

Vegas will take the stage from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., The Huckin Fillbillys will perform from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and We Are the Radio will perform from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Next Saturday, March 19

5th Annual Lucky’s St. Patrick’s Day Crawl at O’Donold’s Irish Pub & Grill

Join O’Donold’s Irish Pub & Grill, 122 W. Federal St. in downtown Youngstown, for the 5th Annual Lucky’s St. Patrick’s Day Crawl on Saturday, March 19, from 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.

The bar crawl will include a costume contest with a $1,000 grand prize, two complimentary drinks or shots, exclusive drink specials from local bars, food, custom Lucky Badge and Lanyard, no cover charge at all venues, a professional photographer and more.
