‘A living piece of aviation history’ will visit the Vienna airport. How to book a flight
One of America’s oldest operating airliners is expected to visit the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport later this week.
As part of its national tour, the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 117 plans to bring the Liberty Air Museum’s 1928 Ford Tri-Motor to the airport at 1453 Youngstown Kingsville Road. The public can fly on the classic aircraft from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 7, and Friday, July 8.
The classic-looking aircraft is expected to bring “the elegance of early aviation to the region,” according to a news release.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for the Mahoning Valley to experience a living piece of aviation history,” Anthony Trevena, executive director of the Western Reserve Port Authority, the airport’s operator, is quoted in the release.
Reserve a flight on the EAA’s Ford Tri-Motor website. Adult tickets are $80 in advance and $85 for walk-ups. Tickets for children 17 and younger are $55. Airventure passengers pay $80.
The association is the world’s largest organization for recreational flying, according to the release.
“EAA’s mission is to grow participation in aviation through flying, building, restoring and volunteer outreach, sharing ‘The Spirit of Aviation’ and encouraging all who wish to participate,” it reads.
