WEEKEND MATTERS | Comedian, magician Michael Carbonaro to perform at Packard

The Big Ticket
Comedian and magician Michael Carbonaro, star of “The Carbonaro Effect,” will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Packard Music Hall in Warren.
Tickets, ranging in price from $32 to $62, can be purchased here and at the Packard Music Hall Box Office, 1703 Mahoning Ave.
Carbonaro was a frequent guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and has appeared in television shows such as “Happily Divorced,” “30 Rock,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI Miami.”
On “The Carbonaro Effect,” which ran for more than 100 episodes on TruTV and can now be seen on HBO Max, he performs inventive tricks on unsuspecting members of the public who are unaware that he is a magician.

- A blast from the past: The Sixties Show will take the audience back in time at Robins Theatre in Warren on Friday. The group will take the stage at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m. In addition to the performance of 1960s hits, B-sides and deep album cuts, the Broadway theater-style show will feature special effects, narration, 1960s archival audio and newsreel footage and a light show, according to The Sixties Show’s website. The band features musicians who performed with The Who, Bob Dylan and the “Saturday Night Live” band. Tickets, ranging in price from $29 to $49 plus applicable fees, can be purchased here and at the Robins Theatre Box Office, 160 E. Market St.
- Pernotto exhibit: A new exhibit featuring local artist Jim Pernotto, “Brier Hill Works: Art and Artifacts from Jim Pernotto,” is now open at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Pernotto recently donated his collection of steelworkers’ tools and equipment salvaged from Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co.’s Brier Hill Works to the Mahoning Valley Historical Society. The tools and equipment are featured alongside Pernotto’s artwork. The exhibit will be on display through March 31, 2023.
- Honoring Rick Shale: Also at the Tyler History Center this weekend, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society will honor the memory of the late artist, professor and community activist Rick Shale. During “Remembering Rick: Art and Friendship,” scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, visitors will be able to view and purchase Shale’s artwork. Admission is free.
- Time warp: Millennial Theatre will stage “The Rocky Horror Show” at 7 p.m. and midnight Friday and Saturday at B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.
- November Rain: Eastwood Mall in Niles will host its November Rain fireworks show at 9 p.m. Saturday. Before the show, there will be a Family Fun Day from noon to 3 p.m. in Center Court, featuring Jungle Terry’s reptile show, and young entrepreneurs will sell their goods and services as part of Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio’s Youth Market Day. The House Band will perform at 6 p.m. in the parking lot next to Ollie’s.
- Farmers market: The Howland Farmers Market will open its winter season Saturday at the Howland SCOPE Center, 8273 High St. NE. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every first and third Saturday of each month through May. It will feature fresh, locally grown vegetables, microgreens, seasonal fruits, pastured pork, eggs, sweets, homemade crafts, seasonal gifts and more.
- Kids, Cookies & Cocoa: Children can hang out with Elsa and The Grinch on Saturday at Rush Church, 5245 Glenwood Ave., Boardman. Moab House’s Kids, Cookies & Cocoa event will feature four sessions: 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. with The Grinch, and noon and 1 p.m. with Elsa. Tickets, which are $24.95 and $19.95 and include a seat in the cookie decorating class, a cookie decorating kit and cocoa, can be purchased here.
- Jewish Film Festival: The 2022 Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday with “Repairing the World: Stories from the Tree of Life” at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane. The viewing will include a presentation. Other films will include “Speer Goes to Hollywood,” “Latter Day Jew,” “Return of the Violin,” “Run Boy Run,” “Dough,” “An American Tail” and “Nicky’s Family.” More information, including dates, locations and costs, is available here.

- On display at YSU: Youngstown State University’s Cliffe College of Creative Arts will open the “Drawing Studio Class Exhibition” on Monday in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery in Bliss Hall. The exhibition, which will be on display through Dec. 1, is a collection of artwork by students studying studio drawing.
- Virtuoso performance: Guitarist Steve Vai will perform at Packard Music Hall in Warren at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets, ranging in price from $52 to $88, can be purchased here and at the Packard Music Hall Box Office, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW.
- Music at Noon: Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music will present a performance by pianists Sean Yancer and Diane Yazvac at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown, as part of the Music at Noon concert series. The performance is free and open to the public.
- Musical celebration: America’s Sweethearts will perform at Packard Music Hall in Warren at 7 p.m. Thursday. The performance is presented by the Warren Civic Music Association. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased here and at the Packard Music Hall Box Office, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW.
Other matters
- Performance postponed: The Vijay Iyer Trio performance scheduled for Friday at Youngstown State University has been postponed. Tickets will be honored on the new date, which has not been scheduled yet.
- Tickets on sale: Led Zeppelin tribute band Get the Led Out will perform at Robins Theatre in Warren on Feb. 24, 2023. Tickets, ranging in price from $35 to $50 plus applicable fees, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday here and at the Robins Theatre Box Office, 160 E. Market St.
- Auditions: The Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, will have auditions for the production of “Outside Mullingar” from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 13 and 14. Information and an audition form are available here.
