YOUNGSTOWN — A 16-year-old male is facing felony counts of reckless homicide and tampering with evidence after another 16-year-old male was found shot dead Thursday.

The Youngstown Police Department on Friday announced it has filed the charges against the unidentified suspect after conferring with the Mahoning County Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.

Officers responded about 1:30 p.m. Thursday to an apartment in the 2700 block of Hammaker Street, just north of Tod Field, on reports that a juvenile had been shot, according to a previous news release from the department. They found the 16-year-old dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The Mahoning County Coroner's Office on Friday identified the victim as Malik Stewart, according to WKBN.

One male juvenile was later taken into police custody for questioning, according to the report.

Both counts are third-degree felonies. In charges of reckless homicide, a defendant is accused of reckless behavior causing another's death.

The city police department continues to investigate the incident.
