A new drive-thru Starbucks planned for Austintown

Officials said developers opted to build a drive-thru-only location due to COVID-19 concerns. Here's what we know so far.

AUSTINTOWN — Construction on a new Starbucks location could begin soon in the township.

The new coffee spot, expected to be 1,000 square feet, is planned for the northeast corner of Mahoning and North Kimberly avenues, according to a public notice published Thursday.

That's near the Giant Eagle grocery store, officials said.

Darren Crivelli, the township's zoning inspector, was told the developer, Trilogy Realty & Development of Canfield, has opted to build a drive-thru-only location, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trilogy Owner Jim Sabatine Jr. confirmed the new location but didn't offer any more details Thursday. A formal announcement is planned, a representative said.

The township approved the site in February, Crivelli said.

The site's engineering firm and land owner have requested a zoning variance on the platted business parcel to allow a setback that's about half of the 50-foot minimum.

A hearing on the variance is set for next week at the township hall, 82 Ohltown Road. Crivelli said he expects it will be approved.
