YOUNGSTOWN — Construction is scheduled to begin this fall on a new facility at Alta Care Group’s Camp Challenge location.
Funds for the project will come from an Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services Capital Grant and more than $160,000 raised from the community and partners. Alta received contributions from PNC Charitable Foundation, Western Reserve Health Foundation, Premier Bank Foundation, Garry L. & Wanda B. Mrozek Family Foundation, Cortland Bank and the Youngstown Foundation.
The new, 2,400-square-foot facility will be built on the Camp Challenge property in Mill Creek Park. The building will provide Alta with additional space for behavioral health services for youths age 6 to 18 and operate Alta’s Mental Health Day Treatment Summer Program and other programs. Services at the new facility will serve as a complement to Camp Challenges’ current social-recreational and therapeutic programming, which helps children with behavioral and social skills through activities on the five-acre property, a news release states.
“Camp Challenge is a unique program within Alta’s family of services because it offers children
and families behavioral health care in an intensive recreational and experiential program. And it’s something we’ve been honored to provide to the community for over 35 years,” Joe Shorokey, chief executive officer of Alta Care Group, said in the release. For more information about Alta Care Group, click here.
