YOUNGSTOWN — The Dana School of Music will have auditions for the Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra’s 2021-22 season.

The orchestra is open to students age 13 to 18, by audition, and presents two concerts annually.

Auditions by instrument and appointment are scheduled to begin Sunday. Interested students should text Julie Larson at 330-550-5528 and provide their full name, school and grade, instrument, cell number and email address.

Formerly the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra, the group, which meets on Monday evenings in Bliss Hall, is now sponsored and supported by the Cliffe College of Creative Arts and the Dana School of Music. It is directed by Dana faculty member Michael Butler and assisted by Richard Smrek.

“This ensemble plays an important role in the cultural life of the Mahoning Valley as it provides excellent instruction and experiences for young musicians,” Randall E. Goldberg, acting director of Dana, said in a news release. “We are excited to host the YSUYO at Bliss Hall.”
