YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown City School District will mandate masks for students and staff, spokesperson Denise Dick confirmed today.

Boardman Local Schools also opted to mandate masks, the district announced in a video posted to YouTube on Friday.

The decisions follow pleas from Gov. Mike DeWine for school officials to mandate masks in the midst of the delta variant's rapid spread throughout Ohio. Earlier this month, American Academy of Pediatrics recommended masking for all students, as vaccines are not yet approved for students under 12.
