BREAKING | YSU-OEA members vote to strike
[EDITOR'S NOTE: This story was updated with the correct numbers of members voting against the strike.]
YOUNGSTOWN — The union representing faculty at Youngstown State University voted overwhelmingly to strike.
In a member vote that closed at 5 p.m., 279 out of 326 voting members — 86 percent — voted to strike.; 29 members voted against the strike; and 18 members abstained, according to a release from YSU-OEA.
Once the state chapter of the Ohio Education Association sanctions the move, the strike will begin 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, the first day of YSU's fall break.
Classes resume Wednesday, "which gives YSU administration two days to close a reasonable deal with YSU-OEA so that classes are not disrupted," a release from YSU-OEA said.
