BUSINESS UPDATES | Heritage Manor residents to receive robotic therapy dogs and cats
YOUNGSTOWN — Jewish Family Services is providing Companion Pets, animated robotic therapy dogs and cats, for six residents of Heritage Manor Rehabilitation & Retirement Community. They will present them to the residents at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The therapy pets are designed to bring comfort, companionship and fun to those with Alzheimer's, a news release states. The pets have realistic fur, make pet-like sounds and have sensors that respond to petting and hugs with familiar pet-like actions.
The therapy pets were purchased with Mahoning Mental Health Board grant money for senior outreach in Mahoning County.
Jewish Family Services provides programs and services including guardianships, counseling, group housing and mobile meals. Heritage Manor offers long-term care, respite care, adult day services, outpatient therapy and rehabilitation. Both are agencies of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.
Alexis Hill joins Salem Regional Medical Center medical staff
SALEM — Salem Regional Medical Center is welcoming Dr. Alexis Hill, an internal medicine physician, to its medical staff.
Hill is joining internal medicine physician Dr. Anna Orlando at SRMC Primary Care, 38506 Saltwell Road, Lisbon, today.
Hill, a native of East Liverpool, provides personalized care for adults. She offers a range of primary care services, including annual physical exams, preventative and wellness care, sick visits for acute illnesses, osteopathic manipulative medicine, immunizations and health education. Her special interests include geriatric care and the management of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Hill earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Malone University and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed her Internal Medicine internship and residency training at Summa Akron City Hospital.
"I'm excited about serving those in our local communities and working in partnership with my patients to provide them with the tools they need to achieve their goals for health and wellness," Hill said in a news release.

Amina's Alternatives For Girls to celebrate grand opening
YOUNGSTOWN — Amina's Alternatives For Girls, 611 Belmont Ave., is celebrating its grand opening through its Achieve Beyond Your Goals Career Employment partnership at 10 a.m. today.
Amina's, a 16-bed institutional facility, provides a transitional home for low income and no income homeless young women, pregnant women and young women with one minor child.
The program is designed for young women (age 15 to 24) to achieve their goals within six to eight months, based on the necessity of their needs.

Webinar on behavior-based safety set for Wednesday
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Safety Council will present a webinar on behavior-based safety from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
Featured speaker Tom Kelly, an industrial safety hygienist for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, will give an introduction to behavior-based safety, a process that creates a safety partnership between management and employees that focuses people's attention and actions on daily safety behavior.
The discussion will include the basic principles of how to motivate safe behavior in the workplace; the benefits of behavior-based systems; and common errors when implementing a BBS program.

CYPEN, a division of Zion Education Center Inc., provides crisis response teams to support, counsel and mentor young children whose families have been specifically affected by the heroin/opioid epidemic, homelessness, sexual abuse, violent crimes, incarceration and domestic dispute.
