YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Commissioners have awarded the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. $500,000 in ARP Funding to provide emergency home repairs to low-income homeowners.

The emergency home repair program can provide the following repairs at no cost to homeowners at or below 50 percent of the area median income who occupy their homes:

  • Replacement of leaking roofs on home;
  • Repair or replacement of furnaces that are not functioning properly;
  • Repair of plumbing leaks or other significant plumping issues (i.e. hot water tank replacement).

Coleman Health receives grant to help underinsured

YOUNGSTOWN — The Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation has awarded a $2,000 grant to Coleman Health Services to help the nonprofit serve clients at the Belmont Avenue location in Youngstown who are uninsured or underinsured to receive needed mental health services.

Coleman serves nearly 7,000 people annually in the Mahoning Valley, treating the whole person by helping clients with not only counseling and case management, but also assistance in removing the barriers to recovery by helping to secure Social Security cards, employment and affordable housing so they may live independent lives.

"Coleman is grateful for the support of the Thomases Family, as the need for these services has greatly increased due to the pandemic," said Tammy Weaver, Coleman's vice president of Clinical Services in a news release.

Martha Thomases said, "My father would be proud to participate in the mission of Coleman Health Services. He would have appreciated everything Coleman does to improve life in the Mahoning Valley."

Real Living Ministries donates to first responders

NORTH LIMA — Real Living Ministries will honor Beaver Township first responders with a $1,000 donation to the Beaver Township Police and Fire Association Funds. The check will be presented at 1 p.m. today at the Beaver Township Safety Building.

The $1,000 donation was raised recently during Real Living Ministries grand opening weekend (Sept. 24-26). Local businesses and congregants crafted themed donation baskets brimming with everything from artistry and other desirables to canine pampering.

Those attending the Sept. 25 Family Fun Day purchased tickets to win the baskets.

Perry and Joy Chickonoski, co-founders of Real Living Ministries, said in a news release that they plan to make the Family Fun Day an annual event and fundraiser for the community.

Power After Hours costume party set

FOWLER — The Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce says it's time to get spooky!

The organization is sponsoring a casual networking event and Halloween costume party Tuesday at Hartford Hill Winery. Powers After Hours is set from 5 to 7 p.m. and costs $15.

Power After Hours, like the chamber's Power Lunches, allows for attendees to connect with other Chamber members.

Attendees can enjoy hor d'oeuvres and a cash bar with Hartford's wine. The best costume winner will receive a spooky Halloween prize.

Youngstown police to swear in officer

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Police Chief Carl Davis will swear in a new officer Tuesday.

Dylan Bell will take his oath at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Covelli Centre Community Room.
