Businesses and services open in the Mahoning Valley

Though many businesses and community services are closed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are still a few places in the Mahoning Valley offering services as of March 18.

This is not a comprehensive list, but we are adding to it as we confirm details. Please let us know of changes or other open businesses and services we should include here by emailing us at news@mahoningmatters.com.

Food Pantries and Meal Providers

Food availability and pickup practices at local food pantries and soup kitchens are changing every day. Providers recommend calling ahead to ensure service is available before arriving.

Help Network of Northeast Ohio

Alliance Community Pantry

Mahoning County Society of St. Vincent De Paul

No meals will be served in the dining hall until further notice. Food is available in carryout boxes and must be consumed off-site.

The Salvation Army of Mahoning County

Take-home lunches will be given out Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The Salvation Army of Warren

Soup kitchen is open as take-out only for lunch Monday-Friday

Churches

Brookfield United Methodist Church

6951 Grove St, Brookfield Township

Sunday worship canceled through March 29, but the church remains open for normal business hours and activities Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m - 2 p.m.

Zion Lutheran Church

3300 Canfield Rd. Youngstown

The church has gone to its summer worship schedule effective March 15.

  • Saturday worship: 5 p.m.
  • Sunday service: 9:30 a.m.

Community Resources

St. Joe’s at the Mall - Mercy Health

Eastwood Mall, Niles

Exercise classes and gym are closed, but the lobby is open as a community resource

Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA)

Providing regular bus service to Mahoning County and Warren. Offering free fares on all of its buses (including paratransit) until further notice.

Entertainment and Sports

Kennsington Golf Club

4171 Westford Place, Canfield

The golf course is open every day from 8 a.m. until dusk. Individual carts are available for safe social distancing.

Mill Creek MetroParks

All Mill Creek MetroParks outdoor locations will remain open including Mill Creek Park, Fellows Riverside Gardens, MetroParks Bikeway, Mill Creek Golf Course, James L. Wick Recreation Area, Scholl Recreation Area, Yellow Creek Park, and All Nature Preserves.
