BWR, YSU Jazz Ensemble teaming up for 'Nutcracker'

The collaboration will be the Mahoning Valley’s only production of the holiday classic with live music.

YOUNGSTOWN — Ballet Western Reserve will present a 1920s rendition of the classic holiday ballet "The Nutcracker," with musical accompaniment by the Youngstown State University Jazz Ensemble. 

The event will feature the dancers of Ballet Western Reserve and students of YSU’s Dana School of Music.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Dec. 6 and 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Stambaugh Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at the Florence and Ward Beecher box office at Stambaugh, by phone at 330-259-0555 and online at stambaughauditorium.com.

The collaboration between BWR and YSU will represent the Mahoning Valley’s only holiday production of "The Nutcracker" with live music this season.

“We’re thrilled to see our jazz program participate in Ballet Western Reserve’s jazzy 'Nutcracker,'” Randall Goldberg, associate professor and director of the Dana School of Music, said in a news release. "It is an excellent opportunity for our students."
