LISBON — Health officials in Columbiana County said they were "saddened" to report the death of a county coronavirus patient.
It is the first death related to the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, reported in the Mahoning Valley. Statewide, at least 10 other people have died, the Ohio Department of Health reported Wednesday.
"This resident was a neighbor, relative and friend; and with a tightknit community like ours, one loss is too many," reads a Thursday morning release from the Columbiana County Health District.
"Let this be a reminder that the disease is here, and the time for action is now. It is essential that you remain in your homes, if you must go into public to practice social distancing and standard disease prevention precautions."
The district did not release further information on the death, due to "time limitations" on district staff.
