Columbiana health officials acknowledge high COVID-19 positivity rate
LISBON — Columbiana County Health District, in acknowledging the county's fast-rising two-week rate of positive coronavirus tests, is reminding residents about nearby COVID-19 testing sites.
The county on Tuesday reported an 11-percent positivity rate for the two weeks ending Aug. 24. That's up from 9.4 percent the week prior and 4.4 percent the week ending July 27, according to a Tuesday news release from the district.
Columbiana County's two-week positivity rate is the highest among the tri-county Mahoning Valley and near the median positivity rate for all Ohio's 88 counties, according to state and federal data.
"Over the last several weeks there has been a significant chance with the COVID-19 positivity rate in Columbiana County," reads the release. "Positivity rate is calculated by dividing the total number of PCR positive tests recorded for a period of time by the total number of tests performed in that same time period. The Ohio Department of Health provides this county-level data over a 14-day window.
"Please remember if you are feeling under the weather, stay home until your symptoms subside, regardless of your COVID-19 status. Preventing the spread of any disease from the common cold to COVID-19 is vital for the health of the community."
