LISBON — Columbiana County Health District today reported a total 1,578 cases of COVID-19 to date in the county, 64 more than the district reported Monday.
Of the total cases, 956 were reportedly from Federal Correctional Institution Elkton and 110 from long-term care facilities, according to a release today from the district.
A total of 62 COVID-19 patients have died in the county; the district reported no new deaths today.
The state on Thursday reported 1,353 county residents are presumed to have recovered from the virus. That metric is measured as the number of patients whose symptoms reportedly began more than 21 days ago but who have not died.
The county's figures include statistics from the cities of East Liverpool and Salem and FCI Elkton, a low-security facility with a population of about 2,400.
As of Thursday, the federal Bureau of Prisons reported 78 active cases of COVID-19 at FCI Elkton, two of which are prison employees.
There have been a total of 1,064 cases at the prison, the second-highest among all federal prisons with confirmed cases behind a low-security facility in Seagoville, Texas, according to bureau data. FCI Elkton's number of active cases is the ninth-highest among federal prisons with confirmed cases, and its number of deaths is the fourth-highest.
Nine COVID-positive FCI Elkton inmates have died. The most recent death was reported May 8.
The bureau also reported that 926 inmates and 51 employees have recovered from COVID-19.
