YOUNGSTOWN — Community Legal Aid is offering programs to anyone who may need legal assistance or who has an interest in the following legal topics. Programs are taught by attorneys and are free and open to the public.
Facebook Live events
Legal Aid advocates will present a different legal topic every Wednesday at 5 p.m. on Facebook Live. Audience members can ask questions related to the topic and get answers from attorneys during the free “Ask a Lawyer” live events.
- May 5: Addressing court debt;
- May 12: Stimulus payments and taxes under the American Rescue Plan;
- May 19: General question and answer session — a panel of Legal Aid advocates will answer questions on a variety of civil legal issues;
- May 26: Veterans services — with special guests from the Stark Honor Court.
What to do if you are worried about an eviction: Join Legal Aid advocates at 4 p.m. May 11, 18 and 25 to find out what to expect if you are facing an eviction or falling behind on rent. Homeowners information class: Learn about the foreclosure process and options if you are falling behind on your mortgage. The program will be offered online at 5 p.m. May 6 and 20. Click here for resources and the link to join the free clinic.
Online record sealing clinic: Offered in partnership with volunteers from Goodyear at 5 p.m. May 11. Preregistration is required. Call 800-998-9454 or apply online here. Those who qualify will be sent the Zoom link information to attend the clinic.
Financial wellness workshops: Learn about bankruptcy and other legal options to manage debt and build a stronger financial future at 2 p.m. May 25. Preregistration is required. Call 800-998-9454 or apply online here.
Veterans screening clinics: Offered in partnership with The Carl Nunziato VA Clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19. Veterans can speak with an advocate to be screened for free legal help related to housing, debt, public benefits, record sealing and other civil legal matters. Clarence Darrow Court clinic (housing and financial concerns): Open to eligible Trumbull County residents or those who have a pending eviction, foreclosure or consumer debt/collection lawsuit in a Trumbull County court. Speak to an attorney about legal rights and options related to housing or debt concerns. Additional services may be available. Clinic operates by phone appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Call 330-983-2584 to preregister. Applicants do not need to have a pending court action to qualify.
Legal assistance to victims of domestic violence or sexual assault: At 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, speak by phone with an attorney about your legal rights and options regarding a variety of civil legal matters, including divorce, custody/visitation, debt/bankruptcy, record sealing, evictions, protection orders and more.
