YOUNGSTOWN — A Tuesday Mahoning County court ruling stopped the Youngstown Fire Department from eliminating three battalion chief positions, at least temporarily.

The State Employment Relations Board in December filed an injunction suit against the city on behalf of the Youngstown firefighters union, IAFF Local 312.

The suit cited charges of unfair labor practices brought by the union in September, which would require mediation through SERB.

County Judge John Durkin ruled in favor of the firefighters, delaying the cuts until the state board issues a final order in its case.
