COVID-19 staffing shortage causes East Library in Youngstown to close temporarily

During the closure, East Library will be deep-cleaned and sanitized.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County's East Library, 430 Early Road, is currently closed due to a COVID-19 related staffing shortage, according to a Tuesday news release.

The library is expected to reopen Monday, Sept. 13. During the closure, the library will be deep-cleaned and sanitized.

"As a reminder, all Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County staff [are] required to wear masks, and patrons are encouraged to wear them while visiting the library," reads the release.

All library branches use ionization devices to "neutralize viruses, allergens and other harmful airborne particles," reads the release. The devices were bought with federal CARES Act funding.

Library patrons can use the library's website,, to access online services 24/7 or visit any of the library's open branches.
