Germaine Bennet appointed to MVSD board of directors

YOUNGSTOWN — Mayor Jamael Tito Brown has appointed Germaine Bennett to the board of directors of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District, effective immediately.

Bennett is the first female director on the MVSD board. Her term will extend to May 5, 2023.

"Mrs. Bennett is a tireless advocate for our community," Brown said in a news release. "From her time spent in the classroom to the time spent in the boardroom, Mrs. Bennett has served our community selflessly while keeping in mind the greater good of her fellow residents of Youngstown. I know that Mrs. Bennett will serve on the MVSD Board with the greatest interest and concern for her fellow citizens and with the utmost professionalism."

Bennett's career in education spanned more than 38 years, and she is active in the community, having served on numerous boards and organizations, including:

  • The Delta Sigma Theta Alumni Sorority;
  • Youngstown State University Diversity Council;
  • Youngstown State University Alumni Society;
  • The Junior Civic League;
  • Mahoning Valley Historical Society;
  • Youngstown Cityscape;
  • Mercy Health System Foundation (Cincinnati);
  • Community Corrections Association Inc.;
  • Mill Creek MetroParks;
  • Bon Secours Mercy Health Youngstown Regional Board;
  • Brown's mayoral transition team.
