Jewish Community Center offers mental health, art workshops
YOUNGSTOWN — The Paul and Yetta Gluck School of Visual Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering free "Support Through Expressive Arts" workshops for ages 18 and older.
The center at 505 Gypsy Lane also is offering art workshops.
Hope Haney, executive director of NAMI of Mahoning Valley, will lead participants in expressive arts workshops on mental health wellness and healing.
Workshops will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 21, July 19 and Aug.16.
S.E.A. groups focus on providing support and emotional exploration through a different artistic project each month.
The support groups use different artistic mediums to help participants explore mindfulness, relaxation and gratitude while providing support as well as an exchange of ideas and coping skills between participants.
Supplies are provided through Terri DeGennaro and the HELMS Foundation.

Art workshops also are available and registration is recommended. Kids on Canvas, for ages 6 to 10, will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Children will create a masterpiece on canvas. Cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
Sea Glass Frame is slated from 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 16. Participants will create a sea glass frame inspired by the ocean to hold a summer memory. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
Japanese Gyotaku Sea Life Prints will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. July 21. Participants will learn how to screen print and work with ink to create sea life imprints. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
Crochet Class will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Participants will learn how to crochet table coasters. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
