GIRARD — Area golfers and local businesses raised $42,505 for Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley last week.

Junior Achievement’s inaugural golf event took place at The Lake Club in Poland and was the kickoff event to raise funds to support local youths this upcoming school year by equipping and inspiring them to understand and manage their finances, live within their means, identify fulfilling career pathways, prepare for work and explore entrepreneurial thinking, a news release states.

“We are thrilled that this year’s golf outing raised enough funds to ensure that more than 1,700 area K-12-grade students will receive Junior Achievement programs presented by local volunteers this fall,” Brian Mellott, committee chair, said in the release. “I am overwhelmed by the gracious support of our community members.”
