Looking for something to do? McDonough Museum has a challenge
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University’s John J. McDonough Museum of Art is challenging the Mahoning Valley to tap into its imagination with the #museumchallenge.
Inspired by the Getty Museum and Tussen Kunst & Quarantaine, people in the Valley are invited to recreate a work of art using household items.
To participate, find artwork from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago or The Getty Center, which are from open access collections. Then take everyday objects from around your home — anything from blankets and boxes to tape and empty toilet paper rolls — and recreate the artwork.
When you are finished, send the image of the original artwork and your recreation to mcdonoughmuseumofart@ysu.edu with the subject listed as #museumchallenge, and it will be posted on the museum’s social media pages. Participants also can post on their Facebook pages and tag @McDonoughMuseumofArt or on Instagram and tag @mcdonough_museum_of_art, and the museum will share the images.
