Lt. Gov. Husted to unveil broadband workforce initiative in Youngstown

New programs for 5G wireless and broadband internet in Ohio are expected to be announced at YSU and Ashland University, as well as a new grant opportunity.

YOUNGSTOWN — Lt. Gov. Jon Husted has set a visit to Youngstown State University Monday to announce new workforce programs for 5G wireless internet expansion at YSU and Ashland University, as well as a new grant opportunity for broadband and 5G in Ohio.

The meeting is set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Youngstown State University's Excellence Training Center and includes YSU President Jim Tressel, Ashland President Carlos Campo and the Wireless Infrastructure Association's Chief Technology Officer Rikin Thakker, according to a Friday new release.

The officials are expected to announce the Ohio Broadband and 5G Sector Partnership Grant application as well as two "5G Readiness" programs at the universities, in partnership with the Wireless Infrastructure Association.
