Mahoning County reports 49 new coronavirus cases, 4 new deaths

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County has 49 new COVID-19 cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

Monday, ODOH reported that Mahoning now has 1,480 total cases, up from Saturday's count of 1,431. THe county also reported four new virus-related deaths, for a total of 178. Of the 1,480 county cases, 313 people have been hospitalized.

Of the county's first 178 total deaths, 73 percent were reported at county long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes, according to a Monday release from Mahoning County Public Health.

In 99 percent of those reported deaths, patients had underlying health conditions, according to the agency.

The agency notes the number of deaths is according to the date they were reported, rather than the actual date of death, as COVID-19 death reporting may be delayed. The figures do not represent the number of people who have died in the past 24 hours and also include confirmed and probable deaths.
