Mahoning, Youngstown health departments offering COVID-19 vaccines, boosters

YOUNGSTOWN — Need a vaccine or a boost? Mahoning County Public Health and Youngstown City Health District are offering plenty of opportunities.

MCPH says anyone who wants to begin the COVID-19 vaccination process with Pfizer or Moderna should call 330-270-2855, Option 3 to schedule an appointment. The first dose primary series for COVID-19 vaccination is available on a weekly basis.

MCPH is offering Moderna and Pfizer booster vaccinations at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive, Austintown.

The schedule is:

  • Friday:
    • Pfizer booster shots, 9 a.m. to noon.
    • Moderna booster shots, 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Nov. 5:
    • Pfizer booster shots, 9 a.m. to noon.
    • Moderna booster shots, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Nov. 12:
    • Moderna booster shots, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Nov. 19:
    • Moderna booster shots, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Those seeking shots must have completed their primary series at least six months ago and must be 18 years of age or older to receive the booster vaccine.

Individuals ages 18 and older who received a J&J vaccine as their primary dose may get a booster dose of any COVID-19 vaccine approved or authorized for use in the U. S. at least two months following their initial dose.

Booster vaccinations are by appointment only. Appointments can be made through MCPH's scheduling system, ArmorVax, which can be found at www.mahoninghealth.org or call 330-270-2855 extension 185 for assistance. Recipients must bring their ID and COVID vaccination card.

The following Ohioans are eligible to receive a booster dose:

  • People 65 years and older or residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot at least six months after their primary series;
  • People ages 50 to 64 with certain underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot at least six months after their primary series;
  • People ages 18 to 49 who are at high risk for severe COVID-19 due to certain underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot at least 6 months after their primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks;
  • People ages 18-64 who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting MAY receive a booster shot at least 6 months after their primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.

YCHD also is offering new shots, second doses and boosters. Shot recipients must bring ID, insurance cards (if applicable) and your vaccine card if you are getting a booster.

Flu shots also will be available and free with proof of insurance.

The YCHD schedule through Nov. 5 has:

  • Today until 6:15 p.m.: Michael Kusalaba Library, 2815 Mahoning Ave.;
  • Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Eugenia Atkinson Recreation Center, 903 Otis St.;
  • Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:Congregation Rodef Sholom, 1119 Elm St.;
  • Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Eugenia Atkinson Rec Center, 903 Otis St.;
  • Monday, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St.;
  • Nov. 2, 11:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.: Brownlee Woods Library, 4010 Sheridan Road;
  • Nov. 3, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Eugenia Atkinson Recreation Center, 903 Otis St.;
  • Nov. 4, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Congregation Rodef Sholom, 1119 Elm St.;
  • Nov. 5, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Eugenia Atkinson Recreation Center, 903 Otis St.

Anyone getting new doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will receive a $100 gift card.

Appointments can be made at covid19.youngstownohio.gov. Eligible booster recipients will be asked to attest they have one of the qualifying conditions, but specific proof will not be required.
