Mayor Brown self-isolating after contact with COVID-19-infected person
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown announced he is self-isolating to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to a release from the City of Youngstown.
In a statement, Brown said the Trumbull County Board of Health informed him he was in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus. Brown was possibly exposed to virus while out to dinner more than a week ago.
He plans to quarantine at home for the remainder of the isolation period and has not experienced symptoms.
"This notification confirmed my concerns about the two places where people do not wear masks: bars and restaurants," Brown said in the statement. "I have been advocating the use of masks for months and have been wearing a mask consistently."
As a result, Brown will be unable to attend this weekend's Juneteenth celebrations.
"I say all of this to send a clear message — coronavirus is real," Brown said. "It is still among us. It is still deadly."
